Help me to carry out all that You have entrusted to me, not because I have to but because it is the desire of my heart to love and serve you with all my being. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN. Introduction Open with me this morning to the book of 1 Peter 5:6-11. Christianity, at its very beginning, was seen as a Jewish faction. Amen. 1 Peter 4:11. If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. Theword about Satan (5:8) recalls Jesus’ warning that Satan would “sift” Peter like wheat (Luke 22:31). The verb, “to perfect” (5:10) is the same word translated “mending their nets” (Matt. 4:21) when the Lord called Peter to follow Him. So Peter wrote out of his own experiences with Jesus Christ. He was a witness (5:1). 51 All that Peter has said in the first four chapters must transpire for the individual within the context of community in the local church, under the loving leadership and authority of Elders (cf. Acts 11:29–30; 14:23; 20:17, 28; 1Tim 5:17; Titus 1:5, 7; Jas 5:14). These “elders” are themselves likely to be the first to encounter the

1Peter 1:1–2 introduces the letter, identifying both writer and audience. The message is from the apostle whom Jesus named ''Peter,'' formerly named Simon. He writes to the Christians scattered and persecuted for their faith across several regions. Peter here refers to these believers as ''elect,'' meaning those specially chosen by God.
